I visited a friend from Vermont who has been working on an organic farm outside the city of Chillán. The farm is a member of the WWOOF network (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms), and travelers work on the farm in exchange for free food and lodging. The farm exports apple juice to the United States and supplies it's farm to table restaurant - Alma Ata Emporio Gourmet - with fresh produce. I helped out on the farm for a couple of days, and walked around Chillán. The city had a much more sophisticated and developed feel than the tiny towns of Patagonia I was used to. The last photo is of garden gnomes in the yard of one of the houses in the extensive suburbs surrounding Chillán.
