On August 19th 1983 George Meegan completed a feet so monumental it is difficult to comprehend - the longest unbroken walk ever completed by a human. He hiked 19,019 miles across the entirety of the Americas from the southernmost part of South America to the northernmost tip of Alaska. I am currently reading about Meegan's 2,425 day journey in his humerous and sincere book The Longest Walk. George Meegan's accomplishment is incredibly inspiring and has helped me put the 2650 mile Pacific Crest Trail in perspective.
The emotion is palpable in this photo of Meegan taking the final steps of his journey.
