We are now high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Two days ago we detoured from the trail for a day to climb Mount Whitney (the highest mountain in the continental U.S.) The next day we returned to the PCT and climbed to the highest point on the trail (13,200 feet).
It is hard to describe the beauty of these High Sierras. I feel like I have gone back in time to a pristine age of unspoiled landscape, of rock, snow, crystal clear water--and of plentiful marmots. Today we descended to the town of Independence to pick up eight days of food and a care package from home with bug spray and Nutty Steph's chocolate bars. And we were able to get on the internet for a few minutes!
