Packing It Out

Length: 4 minutes

Official Selection: Banff Mountain Film World Tour, 5 Point Film Festival and Fresh Coast Film Festival

Clients: REI and Gear Junkie

Description: After thru-hiking and picking up trash off the Appalachian Trail last year, the Packing It Out crew is taking on the Pacific Crest Trail with hopes to remove 1,000+ pounds of litter from Mexico to Canada. The duo, Seth Orme and Paul Twedt, founded the Packing It Out Initiative in 2014 as a way to "inspire a greater sense of environmental stewardship within our communities by raising awareness for litter conditions along America’s trails." This original GearJunkie video, shot and produced by Wild Confluence Media, follows the crew along the driest section of the PCT, offering a slice-of-life of the trash-gathering hikers on their journey north.

Mountain Caribou Initiative

Status: Currently in production

Supported by: Conservation Northwest, Blue Earth Alliance, Sculpt the Future Foundation, Kokopelli Packraft and the Nature Conservancy Canada

Description: The Mountain Caribou Initiative is a team of wildlife trackers, photographers and filmmakers collaborating to tell the dramatic story of the crumbling world of mountain caribou in western Canada and the northwestern United States. Mountain caribou serve as a “canary in the coal mine”, their continued decline reflecting pressure from human resource extraction, recreation activities, and climate change on the remote and beautiful landscapes that these majestic caribou call home.
