Last Stand: The Vanishing Caribou Rainforest
Sponsors: Patagonia, Blue Earth Alliance, Sculpt the Future Foundation & Mountain Caribou Initiative
Roles: Director, Editor, Cinematographer
Notes: From creative direction to expedition cinematography, I played a central role in production of this twenty five minute conservation documentary. This film tells the dramatic story of the crumbling world of mountain caribou in western Canada and the northwestern United States. Mountain caribou serve as a “canary in the coal mine”, their continued decline reflecting pressure from human resource extraction, recreation activities, and climate change on the remote and beautiful landscapes that these majestic caribou call home.
Packing It Out
Official Selection: Banff Mountain Film World Tour, 5 Point Film Festival and Fresh Coast Film Festival
Clients: REI and Gear Junkie
Roles: Producer, Director of Photography, Editor
Notes: I directed production of this four minute film from concept development through filming, editing and distribution. Packing It Out had an enthusiastic and favorable reception, and was accepted in several of the world's most prestigious outdoor film festivals, including internationally screening with the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour.
Columbia Sportswear Campaign
Client: Columbia Sportswear
Notes: The Directors of Toughness campaign is one of Columbia Sportswear's major marketing initiatives of 2017. I assisted as a cinematographer with filming several episodes of the adventure-travel series.
Only The Essential
Official Selection: Best Feature Film - Maine Outdoor Film Festival, Wild and Scenic Film Festival, Mountain Graz Film Festival, Maine Outdoor Film Festival, Columbia Gorge Film, Festival, Lyons Film Fest, Green Unplugged Online Fest, Portland Eco-film Festival, Back to Nature Film Festival
Sponsors: Granite Gear, Big Agnes, Pacific Crest Trail Association
Notes: Only The Essential was my first project and introduction to outdoor filmmaking. The film was shot on a shoestring on my thruhike of the Pacific Crest Trail and my growing pains as a filmmaker are evident, but I am proud of how it reflects my commitment from the start to compelling storytelling. Only the Essential has been screened around the country, and has over 400,000 online views. The film's positive reception encouraged me to dive in professionally as a documentary filmmaker.
